location

It's about halfway betweek Dorking and Guildford. The nearest train station is Gomshall, about five miles away (the camp is actually a bit further down that road than is shown there)

Cycling from Guildford: probably not so good going along the bridleway , it was very sandy loose surface and there were lots of horseflys. Unless you have a suitable bike for the Sahara desert.

Gomshall is on the line from Reading to Gatwick Airport, via Guildford, Dorking, Reigate and Redhill. Timetable available, Gomshall services start on page 14. It seems the quickest way from central London is Victoria to Redhill and then change. Total about an hour, if you coordinate things right.

The REDHILL to GOMSHALL is (Gatwick--> Reading direction) on above PDF timetable details from page 22

maps

Oops - all the maps below point at the wrong place, the camp is actually quite a bit further down hound house road, and on the other side of the road than shown....

If you are cycling from Gomshall Station

If you get to Gomshall, all you need to remember is this...

  1. Get to Gomshall and then get onto your bike and head down the hill
  2. Turn right at Station Road
  3. Bear right at Shere Road
  4. Turn left at Gomshall Lane
  5. Turn left at Middle Street (head through the town)
  6. Continue on Shere Lane
  7. Continue on Sandy Lane
  8. Take the left fork onto Hound House Road and keep going about 2 miles, the camp is on your left

  • I (Ian Knopke) could probably also use a lift on Friday evening.
