Nevada Lightning Lab

Special 7 Year Anniversary Meeting

Jonathan Foote - Ghostmatrix

The prolific Jonathan Foote's latest hack is a light printer that uses an array of UV LEDs mechanically scanned across phosphorescent paper, leaving a matrix of glowing dots that slowly fade. Hence "ghostmatrix." The linear motor was scavenged from the SRL discard pile, and used an Adafruit Mini POV3 with custom software as the light engine.

Jonathan Foote's technical background includes an engineering Ph.D. and he holds more than 30 US patents. His work explores perception and interaction using a range of sophisticated electronics, from vintage vacuum tubes to the latest semiconductors. He is member of the SWARM collective that has collaboratively designed and built a fleet of autonomous spherical robots. Jonathan has shown his work at numerous Bay Area venues as well as internationally. More information on his work can be found at

Marc Powell - Exploring the Food Genome

Food Genome is a big hungry brain that scours the internet, trying to learn everything there is to know about food. If you're interested in food visualization, dietary profiling, and discovering your next favorite thing to eat- well, gosh, you're not going to want to miss this dorkbot!

Marc Powell is a San Francisco-based food programmer + cook

Marc also hosted the very first dorkbotSF meeting 7 years ago!

Greg Leyh - Lightning Lab Current Research and Tesla Coil Demo

Greg will be giving an overview of the Nevada Lightning Lab research possibilities and running the big coil into various test loads. Kevin Ottalini will also show a 3D model of the NLL in Half-Life!

The Nevada Lightning Laboratory is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the study and exploration of large-scale electrical phenomena

Please mail Karen Marcelo (dorkbotSF [at] dorkbot [dot] org) if you would like to open dork (10-15 min mini-presentation)
