CONCEPT TO OBJECT
Portland-based Eric Franklins
presentation will focus primarily on his artistic process, from
concept to final object, and reveal the importance of combining
corporal imagery with materials such as glass, light and electricity
to produce a truly dynamic sculpture. As Eric says of his work:
Fluid luminous expression parallels ongoing biologic processes
regarding adaptable and flexible form and function. Glass forms
express light in different ways due to their physical architecture
as well as the employment of a living bodys electromagnetic
field. This dynamic relationship generates a dialogue of creative
interaction. Inspired by the open system of biological structures
and personal physical experiences in the natural environment,
these objects use the plasticity of glass and light to construct
an alternative narrative that questions inner function, outer
expression and the continuity of matter in the process of human
development.
