Dan Maynes-Aminzade - Interactive Audience Games (and other fun with cameras)

Dan Maynes-Aminzade describe some simple computer vision-based techniques he developed that enable members of a large audience to participate, either cooperatively or competitively, in shared entertainment experiences. These techniques allow groups of hundreds of people to control onscreen activity through simple activities like leaning left and right in their seats, batting around a beach ball, or pointing laser pointers at the screen. He will show video of some past interactive audience shows, give a live demo, and finish by showing some of his more recent projects involving camera-based input, including a class he is teaching at Stanford called "Designing Applications that See" and a large-scale interactive digital mural developed for the San Jose Museum of Art.

Dan Maynes-Aminzade is a Ph.D candidate working under the supervision of Professor Terry Winograd at Stanford University. He received his M.S. in Media Arts & Sciences from the MIT Media Lab, and his B.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. He has also spent time in internships at Walt Disney Imagineering, Adobe Systems, Microsoft, MERL, FXPAL, and Google. His research interests are in Human-Computer Interaction, specifically in tangible and augmented reality interfaces that incorporate non-traditional channels of input and output.

Afshin Mehin - Color-changing cement, Talking T-shirts, Passenger Poking Car Seats and Interactive Tools for Product Design

Afshin Mehin is an industrial designer and technologist whose interests lie at the intersections of technology and craft within the discipline of industrial design. He completed his design studies at the Royal College of Art in London and has worked at different technology research centers such as the Human Communication Technologies Lab in Vancouver and the M.I.T. Media Lab Europe in Dublin. During this time he has created different products and product experiences from concrete that changes color to clothes that can speak with the help of mobile phones. He will be presenting a cross section of these projects, highlighting the trajectory of his work over the last few years. He is presently working at Whipsaw Inc. in San Jose as an industrial designer.

Evolution Control Committee / Trademark G - A Dork's-Eye View of The Evolution Control Committee

A look at The ECC's 20 years of operation, including:

The Thimbletron, ninja-level sampling, cut-n-paste music, circuit-bent kitchen appliances, hyper-mashups, Napster relics, and a legacy of music made of trillions in copyright violations. Take it from us -- we've been violating copyrights since it was difficult.
