A good point -- any meaning of a symbol is context dependent. (time, 
place, media, etc.)

I take Ivan Pope observation, but although on the Buddhist sun wheel did 
mutated into the swastika (or they share a common ancestor), they are not 
the same symbol. They may not even be morphologically identical (the sun 
wheel and the swastika are often drawn with opposite orientations).
