About Dorkbot Columbus

Dorkbot is a volunteer labor of love for participants and organizers.

The first convener, Rich Bowers - in real life - has many facets. He is a member of the Ohio Tech Angels Fund, and involved in some of the entrepreneurial activities of TechColumbus. He is also a technology consultant - as the "Tech Scout" - in marketing, design and current awareness activities at RAB Communications. And he is also a partner in PR Promotions, LLC, exploring new ways to use technology and art for promotion and effective marketing. To cap it all off, he has also recently become a member of the adjunct faculty at Columbus State Community College, and is working with the Integrated Media & Technology department on new approaches to course design in the IT and computing fields.

Bowers was formerly coordinator of a project called the Ohio IT Clearinghouse, at the Ohio Learning Network, funded by the Ohio Board of Regents. He developed and promoted Ohio Computing Unlimited, an initiative that is introducing the International Computer Driving License (ICDL), a certificate program for basic computer skills for the non-technical consumer of computer services - in other words, the rest of us.

He is also a proud participant and contributor to the We Are IT program occurring annually around the state. He also produced a series of short videos - available on the We Are IT site - promoting the participation of professional women in the IT field, with professionals from the Dispatch Printing Co., Mount Carmel Health Systems, and Blackwell Consulting.

The Dorkbot concept has also been heartily supported by Professor Ken Rinaldo (and his ACCAD site), and Professor Amy Youngs, both of Ohio State University.

We welcome any other suggestions, offers, presenters, sponsors - in short anything that extends opportunities for introducing fun, art and entertainment to technology!
